Failure to Loosen

“Failure to Loosen” is a contemporary mixed media painting exploring psychological tension, restraint, and the invisible structures we build to hold ourselves together. Through layered portraiture, handwritten text, abstract mark-making, and industrial-inspired spiral forms, the piece navigates the space between control and collapse.

The spiral structure references a tornillo (screw), acting as both a physical and symbolic element: pressure, fastening, containment, and emotional compression. The obscured face and fragmented surface reflect themes of internal noise, identity, and unresolved tension, while the limited black-and-white palette strips the image down to its emotional essence.

Created with oil and mixed media on stretched canvas, this work is part of an ongoing body of work centered around fragmentation, silence, psychological interiority, and visual restraint.
