‘The Familiar’

In ‘The Familiar,’ a woman and a black cat share the threshold of an open window, their bodies turned toward a world just beyond reach. Painted in stark black and white, the scene feels both ordinary and enchanted, as if an unremarkable pause has quietly become a ritual.

Drawn from old stories in which a familiar chooses its witch, the painting resists the language of ownership. Neither figure belongs to the other. They keep watch together, bound by recognition, instinct, and a private knowledge the viewer may witness but never fully enter.
